Collections
Still Growing Our collections have something for every palate
Our collections number nearly 25,000 items carefully acquired since 1924. Most have been donated by people who live in or have a connection to Greensboro; others have been purchased through funds provided by our membership organization. All have a connection to Greensboro’s story and its role in the American narrative. Thanks to the time and generosity of so many people, there is a grand feast of historical knowledge to share and enjoy. Significant collections feature short story author O. Henry, First Lady Dolley Madison, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, John and Isabelle Murphy Confederate longarms, and Joan and Arthur Bluethenthal Jugtown Pottery. Major holdings include militaria, costumes, textiles, decorative arts and toys. Of special interest are the McKinney Historical and Commemorative Glassware study collection and the Early American artifacts from the David and Rachel Caldwell family.
We invite you to enjoy our outstanding collections, which interpret Greensboro's rich history and make the Gate City’s past real and relevant for us today.
