Spanning the 18th to the 21st centuries, the collection focuses primarily on Greensboro, Guilford County and the Carolina Piedmont.

Subject strengths include collections of notable individuals like William Sidney Porter (O. Henry) and Dolley Madison. Holdings include less prominent individuals and families, like local African-American educator Abraham H. Peeler, or Beth and Louis Puckett’s collection of World War II letters.

The Archives also maintains a strong photograph collection, from Civil War era portraits to a wealth of Greensboro related images.
